Head injury is a serious risk factor for dementia. The more times you injure your head, the more impaired your brain functioning could be as you age.

Even one moderate concussion can have an extended impact on brain functioning as it is linked to the deterioration of processing speed and attention. 

Three episodes of mild concussion throughout our lives might significantly worsen our attention and ability to accomplish complex tasks.

This new study is unravelling the enduring risks of traumatic brain injury, including the risk of dementia. Hopefully, better guidelines will be put in place by sporting bodies and policymakers to reduce the risk of head injury as much as possible.
